On the xmas list…

By Sam October 29th, 2013

Earlier this year, I wrote about the gadgets I thought I’d need in 2013. It’s fair to say that I was wrong - I didn’t ‘need’ any of them. At least not enough to actually purchase them. Although this might seem like some sort of failure on my part, it’s actually more of a lesson in gadgets, and the role that they play (or rather don’t play) in our day-to-day lives.

It’s still true that when it comes to buying bits of tech, I find it very hard to walk away from great craftsmanship and real innovation. I’ve discovered though that many gadgets only succeed in completing one of these two criteria. For instance, while my popcorn maker is exceptionally good at making popcorn, it’s 10 times more expensive and abundantly more work than just buying some popcorn.

So, in light of my inability to predict which gadgets should or shouldn’t be on my Xmas wish list this year, I thought I’d borrow some of your wisdom! Below are some gadgets I’ve had my eye on this year - let me know if you think they’re for buying or for binning!

1) Imagine how perfect and complete life would feel if there was no longer that tiresome wait for the kettle to boil. This blissful paradise we’ve just described is now all too real, thanks to the iKettle - The World’s first WiFi Kettle.

2. An iPhone powered drone helicopter that can do stunts. Enough said.

3. A USB lightbulb both for some mood lighting during those late night design sessions, or for when you have a good idea and want everyone else to know about it.

4) Chipolo is a really simple Bluetooth enabled item finder that works with your iPhone or Android and stops you losing things.

5) Bitlock: The world’s first keyless bike lock to enable low cost peer-to-peer bike sharing among individuals and communities.
